R53 engineering is our new distributor in the UK.
BOS is now being represented by R53 engineering not very well known on the Mountainbike scene but not for long.
R53 engineering is being managed by Roger Estrada former engineer at Mitsubishi Ralliart in WRC.
Here at BOS we have worked with him for a long time, and we know his professionalism and his integrity. It became obvious that on top of the distribution of dampers for competition cars R53 Engineering was the company we had to go for regarding the distribution of our MTB product range. Roger will have no difficulties to fit in the mountain bike scene thanks to his highly technical background, which is a big plus also for warranties and servicing. There is no doubt that he would be as appreciated by the MTB community as he's always been in his other fields of activities.
Idylle Ndee RaRe forks as well as Stoy rear shock are yet again available in the UK. |
French championship.
Following last week’s victory in the French national round in Les Orres in junior category Patrick Thome took a brilliant win this week end in the junior category. A great result for the team Sport Bike, build up by Patrick and Camille Blanchard’s parents, the junior podium is all Sport bike Team Camille in second place and Clément Benoit in third. The boys are now heading to Canada, for the North American legs of the world cup with new ambitions for Patrick. |
Megavalanche Alpe d’huez
Happy guy
Fabien Cousinié took a 13th place of La Méga as they in France, Fabien in leading the race but a pedal issue made prevent him to perform better than thirteen. Any way the boy is happy as Larry: Fabien wasn’t in Elite Category (surprising!) he clinches the victory in the men non-elite category and his flying ticket to La reunion’s Megavalanche. Coucous seemed to be all cheered up on the podium. But before then there are some important races: French championship, the Canadian rounds of the UCI World Cup with the Team Kenda Morewood “powered” by BOS ans Mitch Delfs. |

|
Spanish Championship
BOS all over the place!
Numerous riders use BOS suspension in Spain whether full BOS shock and forks combo or with one or the other. And not the least of them, just looking at the the final results of the national championship that was ran last week end.
In the top 10 of the scratch result 7 riders use BOS. Massi’s rider Bernat Guardia ans Ivan Oulego not to name them are first and second. In Under 23 the title is for Antonio Ferreiro (Devinci-STOY) his time in the final puts him 3rd overall, just in front Arnau Sugranes (Morewood full BOS), in junior the champion is Javier Guijarro (Devinci-STOY). |

French National Round in Les Orres
Patrick Thome pining it.
An injury sustained in the previous round forced Patrick to step back from racing for weeks that was obviously for the best, Patrick just took his first win in a French national round in the junior with style in Les Orres.Patrick will soon be leaving to Canada with his team mates and Dad for the north American round of UCI World Cup. Good things will come out the trip without doubts. |
Canadian downhill round
Sam Hill and Mitch Delfs were in Bromont for a Canadian round ahead of the UCI World Cup that will take place in Bromont in July. The weather was just from another planet and Sam Hill Pullet out of his “helmet” something he can only do in muddy condtions leaving Mitch 9 seconds behind.Mitch Logically finishes 2nd , let’s hope that it will profitable to him in 3 weeks time.

Deelite Program.
Racing lite with Deelite.
BOS has launched with NDEE a true single crown DH forks, whose performances are Idylle alike, the big plus is that it allows to build a light DH bike easy to handle.
This is why it cames to our mind to propose Co factory program to juveniles and feminine categories. Originally scheduled for 2010 it starts for now on and offers NDEE at very decent conditions to those concerned. |

DH World Cup #5 Maribor
First Podium for Floriane Pugin, good result for Delfs
The newly crowned European Dh Champion has confirmed this week end yet again that she is in great shape by taking a 3rd in Maribor.
Looking at the Team Kenda Morewood Nathan Rennie has gone home, after a disappointing start of the season, in order to regain his fitness for the worlds in Canberra almost his home track. Fabien Cousinié has been asked to join in the team for few races. Fabien went down in the final ending up in 69th position. On the other hand a very good result for Mitch Delfs in 9th, a result that reflect his true potential and ambitions.

European Championship
Floriane Pugin European Champion
Only a week before the UCI World Cup in Maribor, most of the riders were already in Slovenia for the European championship. The French girls make a 5 out of 5 after Fort Williams, but this time around it is Floriane Pugin (4th in Scotland) who is on the top of the podium in front of Emelyne Ragot and Céline Gros! Encouraging result for Floriane before round #5 of the World Cup. On the same positive note, Shaun O’Connor had the fastest time of the week but non official has a non European rider, a very good result for the young Australian rider from the team Kenda Playbiker. |

Stoy Air being tested out.
For the time being let’s call it Stoy Air, whilst waiting for another name should there be any. The prototype of this air shock that will come along with the new Deville forks are both being tested out. The production version of the shock could be slightly different from the prototype. Wait and see. |

DH World Cup Andorra
When the going gets tough…
Lets be honest, BOS’s team riders results were not up to the level in regards to our expectations their ambitions and certainly not to their value in Andorra.
Yet again Mitch Delfs is the best ranked of all in 27th position. A disappointing result for the young Australian rider who’s 15th position in qualifying led to think he would better his time on race day.
There is one thing we can be sure about it that Mitch is a super spectacular rider, some of his section were really impressive. Sometimes his generous/aggressive riding skills are counter productive; he just needs to calm down to perform at a higher level. No explanation to Rennie’s surprising 62nd position. The Rock is doubting, to his own confession the problem lies his head. The riders from the Team Kenda Morewood will spend 2 weeks in Morzine at Nigel’s (Nathan’s Mechanic) to ride for fun and relax before Fort Wiliams.
Iron Horse Playbiker’s team rider Shaun O’Connor was sick and could barely stand on his bike. Rankin is getting better but still miles away from what he could do in 34th position. Floriane Pugin qualified in a brilliant 4th position, but couldn’t perform at the same level in the final ending up 7th. Romano, team manager, confirmed that he will make the most the next to weeks to make sure that his riders will be focussed and ready for the next race.
Speaking of Team Manager, a word on Fabien Cousinié Team manager/lead rider of his team made it to Andorra not in the best shape following a hectic week.
He follows a Master this year and his school puts him under pressure, he is not attending as much as the others due to his race schedule! He did a great qualifying runs but couldn’t confirm in the final. Fabien has potential but only perform well in qualifying. He just needs to find a way to relax on race day… finally his team mate; Nicolas Ortiz made it to the finals and finishes the race to an honourable 56th place. High hopes, we can’t wait to be Scotland. |

Road Trip
The Kenda Morewood team @ Riders Incorporated
On the road between la Bresse and Andorra, the Kenda Morewood team stopped in Toulouse at Bos's headquarters. While the mecanichs were having a training session on suspension service, and tyhe managers was involved in a top level meeting with Olivier Bossard, the riders went to the incredible bike park built by Riders Incoporated, half a mile from the factory. The australian spent almost all the time on the dirt trail, and, if Nathan could not ride too much because of his knee, Mitch had great fun. The two of them mentionned that the young guys from Riders Incorporated made an amazing job (you should see the north shore !). The day after, everybody was heading to Lourdes for a testing session with Olivier Bossard, prior to get to Andorra. Gary perkin was travelling along with the team and he made some pics that you may see on Littermag or Dirt mag...

DH World Cup - La Bresse
Mitchell Delfs twelth
Dh World Cup n°3 was held in France (after all those years without one in France, we kind of missed it !) with different fortunes for BOS’s riders. It wasn’t Natan’s week-end suffering from his knee and not in the best shape. Even though he did not push it in practice he tried his hardest in the qualifying and in the final, but unfortunately he had a massive crash in the fast section at the bottom at the track. On the other hand good performance from Mitch Delfs, finishing 12th, he was playing in his league. Mitch lack of pace made him losses at least 2 seconds on top of the track where it was needed to push as hard as possible on the pedals( See Hannah on Freecaster) before entering the technical section and achieving a good run.
On such short track where the riders form 4th place onwards were very closed , Mitch could have been for the first in the Top 5. The boy is talented, no doubt about it, future holds greats things for him but he will need to work hard physically.
At Iron Horse Playbiker, Floriane Pugin was disappointed; a lot was expected from her on this technical track. She may have felt under pressure from the crowd on home soil. Let’s see what happen in Andorra. Shaun O’Connor missed the cut in qualifying and didn’t go through the final (only 4 juniors got qualified for the final), as for Nathan Rankin who just got back from injury he missed some pace.
Finally Fabien Cousinié had a brilliant qualifying run in 22nd position, people starts to talk about him a lot in the pits thanks to his consistent results. He got into his final run under pouring rain, he feared a slippery track and held back a little couldn’ t get into the right pace a shame because the track was still grippy. Fabien wasn’t looking for excuses, only admitting. |

For those who know...
The pro's choice
You've seen, Simon Andre's Radical in these pages. Here is now, the bike that Fabien Lemasson (french engineer working for Morewood) is currently building. If you have any doubt about N'dee, the pros made their choice ! |

Avalanche Cup in Lyon
Cousinié again !
One week before La Bresse, a few top world cup riders entered the Avalanche Cup race in Lyon. Among them, Sam Hill, Andrew Neethling, and the Kenda Morewwod team. The race has been won by frenchman Aurelien Giordanengo, who's showing very fast currently (he finished in a strong top 20 in RSA). Hill finished second in front of Fabien Cousinié, on his Morewood / BOS bike ! Fabien should be able to clinch a very good result in the world cup series one of these days...The Kenda Morewwod team did not appear in the top rankings. Nathan Rennie crashed heavily, but will be racing in La Bresse. |
Sea Otter Classic
The Kenda Morewood team on tour in USA
Like most of the World Cup actors, the Kenda Morewood Team entered the Sea Otter Classic where Nathan Rennie and Mitchell Delfs raced both dual slalom and DH. The Sea Otter is not the most important race of the year in terms of results, so these ones are nor really significants. It will remain from this week that Hannah is definitely hungry and currently the most consistent rider. He wins with a two second margin on Rennie's tenth time. A very short gap that does not mean so many things, since they are ten in two seconds, and many top riders are out of this top ten. We may have to wait for La Bresse and Andorra to get a better picture of the season. Nathan finishes twelth in the dual, whereas Mitch spent more time making the show, with tremendous whips. |
Back to Piertermaritzburg
Rennie quite happy, bad luck for Cousinié
Back from Piertermaritzburg, we have some fresh news about the BOS rider's results. Some of you may be surprised to see Nathan finishing only eleventh on such a fast course, where power was so important. In fact, after his surgery, Nathan came back on the bike just a few weeks ago (more or less just before Malaga testing session) and he admits that he did not reach his best shape yet. But, noticing that he is only three seconds behind Atherton he felt surprised and reassured. Still not really happy with his result, this short gap reduces his disapointement.
Mitchell Delfs, suffered clearly from a lack of physical strenght. But the staff took some times in the technical section and could notice that he was one of the fastest guys...
Fabien Cousinié has been smart during the semi finals, by using a telescopic seat post, which allowed him to pedal like a dead cross country rider ! Unfortunaltely, he broke a pedal onto a rock at the start of the final, and lost any chance to pedal properly in the long, long, long fast section. Nevertheless, he showed his potential, and I suggest to our friends from Freecaster TV to update their notes about this unknown french rider... |
WC DH Piertermaritzburg
Mild start of the season for the BOS riders in Pietermartizburg.
Mitch Delfs from KENDA MOREWOOD team never seemed to dial it right on a track probably too flat for him. Thanks to his ranking in 2008 he went directly into the final, ending up in 45th position that does not reflect his full potential.
Nathan Rennie could not find the right pace to be up in the table. Qualified in 14th position, he finished 11th of a race that has been dominated by Greg Minaar. Mick Hannah had a storming come back in 2nd position, up there with all the big boys ( he was followed by Peat, Hill and Atherton..). We hope to See Nathan joining them in the top 5 or 6 in the next round of the world cup in La Bresse supposedly far more technical, and in the meantime some test will take place with BOS .
Only three riders from the PLAY BIKER team entered the race : Shaun O’Connor, Floriane Pugin and Elisa Canepa. Shaun missed the final because of a crash during his qualification run and Elisa had a puncture in the final. Floriane ending up in 6th position, a good result from her having in mind that she only received her suspensions Idylle RaRe and Stoy couple of days before the start of the season. She would definitely prefer a steeper and more technical course, and might be more competitive in la Bresse.
Finally Fabien Cousinié who was riding as if he possessed during the qualification finished the race in 22th position amongst other frenchies (Payet 21, Pascal 23, Garcia 24). A very decent result for a pure privateer.

National DH in Piertermarisburg
Fabien Cousinié as if he was at home
One week before the World Cup race in Piertermaritzburg, most of the WC riders entered the national race on the same course. If the result doesn't show the real level of the competitors (many of them just rode the track without searching any result), Fabien Cousibnié's fifth place is very engouraging. Even better, Fabien won the 4X race in front of an enthousiast crowd. The french rider spend several weeks in RSA @ Morewood for a student training, and since this time he is very famous and very popular over there. |
Nice bike
Racing N'dee
Simon André (product manager @ Sunn and very good national rider) created a sensation by showing himself in Lourdes with a Radical featuring an N'dee fork. This very nice assembly proves that N'dee is a real "singke crown DH fork" which actually allowed Simon to finish second in the senior (Elite) category ! You can trust the fork's rigidity compared to a double crown : Simon is a very good rider who pushes hard, and loads a lot the front end of the bike. If you want to make your own super light DH bike, without giving up about performance, you know what to do ! |

World Cup preview
BOS Riders racing World Cup
A few days before the openning of the season, check out the official Bos riders involved in the 2009 DH World Cup
Team Kenda Morewood
Riders : Nathan Rennie / Mitchel Delfs
Manager : Peter Siulczynski
Great motivation for all the team, that has been reduced by Peter Siulczynski to two riders for more efficiency. The technical support from Morewood and Bos should help a lot in terms of performance, and the two riders are very happy about the bike / suspension set up.
Team Iron Horse Kenda Playbiker
Riders : Nathan Rankin / Shaun O'connor / Floriane Pugin / Elisa Canepa
Manager : Romano Favoino
The team already showed his consistency last year, and remains one of the most serious of the WC circuit. It's no longer necessary to present Nathan Rankin, but you can expect very good things from Shaun O'Connor, who is considered as one of the best junior riders. He will clearly compete for the WC junior overall and for the world champion title.
Floriane Pugin is the new french female sensation. She improved a lot last year, and is very motivated. She could get closer than ever to Rachel... Elisa is racing DH WC but her real goal is the enduro serties in Italy, where she is dominating.
Team Morewood United
Riders : Fabien Cousinié / Nicolas Ortiz
Manager : Fabien Copusinié Fabien Cousinié decided to create his own team this season. A great challenge for the young french rider, who will have to race, handle the team and his studies at the same time ! Nevertheless, Fabien is really talented, and he should be able to clinch some good results during the season. |
The show goes on
Bos presents Deville at the Taipei Cycling Show
Bos have attended the Taipei Cycling show 2009, hosted by our local reseller. Though we were there in a very discrete way, it was worth coming around and check us out: the French brand was showing the prototype of its first Enduro forks, named Deville.
Deville could be described as this: stanchions diameter 34mm 160 mm travel quick release 20mm axle, air spring et for the one that was released in Taipei 3 ways of external adjustments (high and low speed compression +rebound). A model adjustable in compression and rebound will also be available. Target weight 2.3kg.
Deville is fitted with a system that acts directly on the air chambers that unable the forks to be extremely efficient upon pedalling without locking it out.
As you can on the pictures BOS paid a lot of attention to the design of the lowers. Whilst the design of the magnesium casting made by the Toulousains fot the Ndee Idylles was rather simple, and quite frankly it was spot on, it was necessary to make it swift for a model that will be dedicated to a wider audience.
Deville should be available aftermarket spring 2010.The first tests are being carried as we speak.
An Air shock will soon be presented, it will be Deville’s perfect match for any demanding enduro riders looking for good balance front and back.
Idylle RaRe : available !
RaRe are tagged the forks of our range that dedicated to racing. RaRe Stands for Race Ready. It is fair to think that the Deville presented in Taipei will labelled RaRe. On our Website for several weeks already, it was officially launched at the Cycling show. It doesn’t come as a replacement for the Idylle Pro but it definitely is the best compromise for Dh Racer after true performance. It has the same features as Idylle Pro high and low speed compression ,rebound and hydraulic bump stop in a different version because of the nature of the open bath cartridge. No more pressurised cartridge, performance wise great, but evry cloud has a silver lining the weight was just a a bit too heavy also because of the oil level that was higher than it is now. Idylle RaRe eventhough it has an hydraulic bump stop setting and because the boltage is 100% titanium weight just the same than the basic Idylle ,just below 3.3kg tag. The hydraulic overall levels out with Idylle Pro but way easier to handle and there for more efficient, after the first it became then obvious that Idylle RaRe was ideal for Racers. The kenda Morewood team will be racing it all through the season on the world cup scene, the test carried in Malaga had left no doubts about it. RaRe is available to amateurs as well as professional riders the production was definitely launched straight after those tests.
STOY 2 ways !
The thing with STOY is that it systematically comes with a special setting that is developed for the kinemetic of each bike, whether it is for a one customer or for a brand. A valving precisely adjusted can guarantees an optimised functioning for most of users. The external adjustments are there to fine adjust to the rider it self and to the terrain. No offence to any one but it is not that easy to make a clear difference between high speed compression and low speed compression, the idea of a STOY 2 ways is that 80% of the rider would find it just about right. Adjustable in rebound and compression it is delivered with standard bushings,(leaving the possibility to upgrade for a needle bearing kit ,depending on bike set up ).
This will keep the price even more competitive than it is now. The original set up will be just as identical as the 3 ways. Dyno curve will the same the only difference is the possibility to fine tune the compression. Dedicated to OE from 2010 onwards, this shock will also available after market to a later date. |

KENDA MOREWOOD TEAM EXCLUSIVE PARTNER OF BOS MOUNTAIN BIKE SUSPENSION
Following the announcement of Nathan Rennie and Mitch Delfs on-board the KENDA MOREWOOD Team, Gravity Group wish to announce a new partnership with BOS MOUNTAIN BIKE SUSPENSION as official Team Partner for suspension forks and shocks.
Nathan Rennie and Mitch Delfs will have the choice between IDYLLE and IDYLLE PRO forks, while the STOY shock will be responsible for rear suspension on their downhill bikes.
BOS’s professionalism and knowledge are legendary and their experience with racing in general is impressive: 2 Downhill World Championship titles with Nicolas Vouilloz, 3 Dakar Rally wins with Mitsubishi and 4 J-WRC World Championships just to name a few.
Jean Christophe Charrier, BOS ENGINEERING SUSPENSION Marketing Director
“For BOS it was not possible to come back to MTB without being involved at the highest level of racing. And it will be the case in 2009 with the KENDA MOREWOOD Team.
We had already worked with Morewood Bikes last season and could see the brand's potential. The bike is performing really well, we now have one year of experience together with Morewood and all we were missing was a professional racing structure as well as top riders... We met them with Gravity Group, Nathan Rennie and Mitch Delfs!
We believe that the KENDA MOREWOOD Team has a huge potential. It's exactly what we were looking for: a very professional structure, an experienced rider able to win races, a fast youngster able to do top 10 at any race and one of the best bikes on the market... We could not dream about a better package. It's now time to start working on bike development with the whole staff and the riders together in order to reach and even improve this potential.
We all share the same goal for the upcoming season, and we all know that the key is hard work, solid organization and total commitment. At BOS we are all very happy and very proud to get such an opportunity to work with Nathan and Mitch. We showed that we could do well in the past, but nevertheless we know that we still have to prove what we are able to do. Racing needs to evolve constantly and our come-back alongside such good partners and riders is a great challenge for BOS.”
Peter Siulczynski, KENDA MOREWOOD Team Manager
We are very happy about partnership with BOS. Its not just a suspension supplier in our eyes but first and foremost a race experienced company that will play a very important role in improving our speed. Furthermore, we are glad that such high-profile suspension manufacturer chose KENDA MOREWOOD for being their flagship team.” |

Radical Stoy
A stoy for the Radical
Patience is a virtue, rewarded are those who have refined the art. The Bos S**toy shock is finally available for all SUNN radical owners.
The Stoy “rad” is more than just a Stoy with a push rod grafted onto it to make it compatible with that particular chassis.
In order to optimize the mechanical function of the shock, not only have we designed an elegant specific push rod, but we had to increase the bushing size to avoid negative side loads that can occur due to the length of the whole pushrod/shock ensemble.
Finally it’s a new cylinder, shaft, and a pushrod that makes this shock so unique for the Sunn downhill frame.
And to top it all off we developed a specific setting for the frame in collaboration with Sunn.
All in all we spent three months along with test rides to come up with a satisfying result and a polished product ready for the market.
The Stoy “rad” will be available for 706 euros which is only 36 euros more than your conventional Stoy.
Nothing but good news for “Radical” owners really! What more could you ask for?

Stool
No other tools needed around you except for the S**TOOL!
If you own a S**toy or an Idylle pro or maybe even both then you won’t be able to live without it. Stool is a specifically designed tool to adjust your Bos suspension. Easy to carry around, tucked in a pocket or around your lanyard, allowing you to fine tune your suspension as you please, even half way down your run. However we strongly recommend for the dial crazy riders out there that you remain very methodical with your race tuned suspension, as you can easily get confused, in which case it’s always good to go back to your original settings.
Stool offers two flat head interface in order to adjust the low speed compression: one at the tip of the shaft and the other in the center of the tool. The latter allows you to adjust the low speed compression when the tubing or linkages of the frame get in the way to reach the dial.
On the flip side, you can find the hexagonal print of the high-speed compression dial.
The center part of the tool is made of INOX and the main body is made of Aluminium.
Please see attached photos of our first prototype. The S**tool will be available late February with an anodized finish.

N’Dee: Here she comes!
The bos single crown fork based on the Idylle platform will be available in January. But beware, as the first production will be very small before we get on a rhythm, so get in quick.
N’dee has evolved since our first unveiling, we optimized it in every aspect in order to satisfy the riders with its intended use.
The N’dee is a pure light downhill/freeride fork with 180mm (7”) travel for a 565mm height (identical to the Idylle).
The quick release will reappear for the Enduro fork, as the use of it revealed less than usefull in most cases and would slightly increase the weight.
N’dee is still equipped with an open bath damping system, adjustable in both compression and rebound, decked out with the usual air bleed valves at the top of the stanchions. The fork will be delivered with three different springs (one in the fork and two in the box). The final weight will be scrapping just under the 3kg.
|
Idylle: the winning recipe
The Idylle will ship out along with the N’dee middle of January! This downhill specific fork with a racing edge will be within reach for all level of riders. This fork as seduced a lot of racers who have had the chance to test it. From the average rider to Markus Klausman along with Oscar Saiz, Fabien Cousinie…all of them were thrilled on the performance of the Idylle.
The Idylle is set to be the perfect recipe for every downhill rider out there: affordable/ lighter than the Idylle pro, and more importantly packed with the usual Bos performance.
Official Weight: 3.260kg.

Stoy: new shock kit for the Sunday
The Iron horse Sunday is the most titled frame in the last couple of years with a double world champion title back to back thanks to Hill and Jonnier and is also one of the most sold downhill bike around the wolrd.
Unfortunately, the original linkage offered very small amount of space for the shocks reservoir and wasn’t allowing enough clearance to retro fit a Stoy on the Sunday.
Due to a high demand of customers wishing to fit a Bos S**toy on their Sunday’s we decided to manufacture a brand new Bos designed linkage allowing clearance for our shock. Coupled with a Sunday tuned Bos Stoy shock you are guaranteed one of the best frame/shock combinaison around!
The kit is now available and retails for 712 euros including the linkage.
